The structure of Romney Weir, on the River Thames had been put under threat when it was discovered that a nine metre scour hole had developed on the downstream side of the weir. If not dealt with quickly, the scour hole could have worsened and caused the weir to collapse.
Jackson mobilised a team very quickly to install new cut-off sheet piles on either side of the weir structure, to stop the water flowing underneath. A bubble curtain was used to absorb the piling vibrations which had the potential to disturb a nearby fish-spawning shoal. Repair work is now complete on the structure and Jackson is about to begin a new contract to install the world's largest Archimedes Screw Hydropower Plant on top of the weir structure, which will power Windsor Castle.
This project also recently won the EA's Project Excellence Award for Project Management.
