Jackson constructed a range of flood defence structures, to protect Cheltenham from a one in 100 year flood. Work included the construction of an upstream storage reservoir and control structures, replacement of two existing road bridges to increase capacity, floodwalls comprising bored pile foundations and reinforced concrete capping beams, clad with natural stone and engineering brick.
Existing sewers were also diverted to facilitate some of the culvert works and the river bank was replaced with a sheet pile wall clad in reinforced concrete and brickwork. A number of fish passes were also installed as part of the ecological measures required on the scheme.
