In 2010 Jackson Solutions advised Connect Plus on buildability issues associated with repairs to joints in the road deck in the West tunnel. Originally, the deck had been fabricated outside the tunnel and installed in sections, resulting in numerous joints. The drainage pipework beneath the deck also had to be replaced. On a section of road as busy as the Dartford crossing, long term road closures simply aren't an option, so all work had to be planned around night time closures. Jackson Solutions was commissioned on a time-charge basis to undertake night visits to the tunnel and observe the surfacing replacement work and inspect joints and drainage arrangements from beneath the deck. We then advised Connect Plus o how best to plan and execute the work within the limited access available.
