  • Proudest moment Leading the management buy-out in 2004
  • Career path I was born in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, Australia. A Civil Engineer by profession, I came to England in 1997 having previously trained and worked in Local Government in Australia. The catalyst for the move was my marriage to Pippa who grew up in Suffolk and somehow convinced me that the sun always shined in England. Since then I have worked in many roles within both Jackson Group and then briefly for the worlds largest contractor, Vinci. I was then fortunate enough to lead a management buy-out of Jackson Civil Engineering in 2004. In 2008 I was made SEH Group Chief Executive after the buy out of one of the SEH Group's founding Directors
  • Favourite project I think every job is interesting although I tend to like the more challenging schemes. Getting those complex schemes right is always very rewarding

  • Proudest moment Being offered the position of Regional Manager in 2003
  • Career path Started as a Site Agent, became Regional Manager in 2003 and then Contracts Director for the South in 2006
  • Favourite project My most memorable and favourite project was when I spent 18 months on Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated) in South Africa as a site agent changing the island infrastructure from a prison into a museum for public access. As it was an island that had been made into a International Heritage site, all material had to be brought by ship or helicopter onto the island including all the aggregate for the concrete works and this caused huge logistical problems (we managed to get the ship stranded at low tide on more than one occasion). To top it all off I managed to personally meet and chat to the great man himself when we officially handed the works over. Job done!

  • Proudest moment When I was offered a seat on the board. It was a target I had set for myself when I first joined Jackson and realised what a great company it was
  • Career path I joined Jackson as a site engineer and progressed to project manager before being promoted to regional manager for the Anglia region. From there I became key client/ services director looking after quality, safety, environment and training as well as being framework manager for the Environment Agency. I was then promoted to Technical Director with a seat on the board
  • Favourite project M11 Refurbishment. circa £5m over 5 months , stretching from Harlow to Stanstead. Carrying out over 11,000 repairs to the existing concrete road. As a lane rental, it meant living on site and working 11 days on and 2 days off. While very hard work, it is the sort of project that you look back on realise that it tested and pushed you to your limit
