Construction of a new 3.3km single carriageway on embankment of between 1 to 1.5m high above the existing flood plain, included:
Major earthworks comprising excavation and placing of 60,000m3 of unacceptable soil in landscaping bunds, placing of 100,000m3 of imported sand fill in structural embankments
1500m of new ditches and 10,000m of piped drainage
5 surface water lagoons
The route of the bypass was through the Waveney Valley and within the Broads Environmentally Sensitive Area thus carrying restrictions similar to those found in national Parkland.Relocation of protected species included Otters, Water Voles, Slow Worms, Grass Snakes and the Common Lizard.
