The purpose of this scheme was to support the development of a housing scheme near Folkestone in Kent
The project was to construct 1.3km of single carriageway highway forming the last link to the relief road around the expanding village of Hawkinge. The works included a stabilised sub-formation on the weak glacial clays overlying chalk which also has solution features each providing engineering challenges.
The highway was screened from adjacent properties using earth bunding and acoustic screening. Badger tunnels allow foraging badgers to access their feeding grounds. The drainage from the highway is discharged to the underlying chalk strata via deepbore soakaways.
