This project for Port of Tilbury involved the construction of three large warehouses, providing a total of 64,000m2 of floor area. A dedicated vessel berthing quay designed to meet fast-turn round operational requirements, located adjacent to the storage sheds, ensured maximum efficiency for cargo handling. Jackson Civil Engineering was awarded a design and construct contract to complete this project against a demanding 12 month programme.
To accommodate the new facility, the existing Short Sea Terminal was relocated, an operation that required the moving of dockside cranes. Using flattop barges and locally based tugs, the cranes were floated across the dock: a novel solution but one that proved to be most effective.
