Harwich International Port awarded this Design and Construct contract for the construction of a new onshore passenger facility to a Joint Venture of Jackson Civil Engineering and Jackson Building. The terminal was designed for the new High Speed Service being introduced on the Harwich/Hook of Holland ferry route using the innovative catamaran vessels requiring fast-turnaround facilities when in port.
Contract design and completion was set against a demanding programme of 20 weeks with the completed terminal scheduled for handover to facilitate early-season traffic.
The terminal building is a two storey structure attached to existing terminal facilities. An extension to an existing Motorist’s Building was incorporated into the project together with Ticket Booths and Security Check Canopies.
