Construction of a range of measures to protect the Regency town of Cheltenham from a 1 in 100 year flood. They included an upstream storage reservoir with control structures, replacement of 2 existing road bridges to increase capacity, floodwalls comprising bored pile foundation, reinforced concrete (RC) capping beams and clad with natural stone and engineering brick. The construction of bypass culverts, replacement of existing culverts and the lowering of the invert of an existing Victorian brick arch culvert beneath the town centre.
Existing sewers were also diverted to facilitate some of the culvert works. The project included replacement of river bank with sheet pile wall clad in reinforced concrete and brickwork, paving and street furniture along with extensive landscaping throughout the scheme to both private properties and public spaces.
