Tilbury East Dock Sewer

The East Dock Sewer drains via flapped outfalls to the River Thames at Botney Sluice and the Hotel Gardens Sluice.  Works consisted of improvements to the tidal outfall which involved the online replacement 40m of the existing brick culvert and associated concrete headwall and timber doubled hinged flap valve.  At Culvert 5 and Freightliner locations, channel improvement works were undertaken.  At Churchull Road the channel capacity had been reduced to less than half due to embankment slips.

The banks of the channel in this location were over steep due to the close proximity of properties, and deposited dredging arisings.  This required an innovative solution.
