The Beach at Carlyon Bay is a Design and Build contract for the road infrastructure and sea defences for a privately funded resort development. It will ultimately include 511 apartments, shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. This unique development is being constructed on an existing beach at St. Austell which has had numerous uses over the years including military and various leisure activities.
Initial works included upgrading and widening the existing narrow cliff road, site clearance and demolition of existing structures. Subsequent works include cliff stabilisation, temporary sea defences, permanent sea wall (up to 9m high recurve wall), rock armour (50,000te) and beach recharge (230,000m3). As principal contractor. JCE has worked closely with the client and their team over a four year period on a series of studies, preliminary designs and design development to establish the feasibility of the overall scheme.
