Halfway milestone for Catholic Bridge Project

Jackson recently reached the halfway mark on the Catholic Bridge project which involves the renovation of a 176 year old bridge into a pedestrian underpass in Witham, Essex.

Originally constructed in 1842, Catholic Bridge consists of eight cast iron beams with brick jack arches. In 2014, three of the cast iron beams were identified as unsafe during a support inspection and as a result, temporary supports were installed to keep the bridge in use.

So far, the team have removed the existing temporary works, and installed a temporary portal frame to support the bridge and excavated under the bridge using a Vac-Ex machine in preparation for new concrete foundations.
