Jackson is delighted announce that they are now the proud owners of four Environment Agency Exemplar Awards after receiving the 2019 award on the Perry Barr and Witton flood risk management scheme.
To date Jackson hold four of these significant awards, the first presented in 2010 for the delivery of the Cobbins Brook flood storage reservoir. Additional recognised projects include Godmanchester Flood Alleviation Scheme in 2013 and Radcot Weir in 2014.
Perry Barr and Witton flood risk management scheme was recognised for its outstanding health, safety and environmental performance in the delivery of the project. Yordan Tsvetkov, the sites Logistics Coordinator was presented the award by Environment Agency’s Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner, Jonathan Jones in front of the newly constructed control structure.
This award-winning scheme, involves the construction of the UK’s largest flood storage reservoir which will hold 1.7 million cubic meters of water and reduce flood risk for 1,400 properties currently at risk of flooding from the River Tame.

The site is located in Birmingham’s ‘Air Quality Management Area’ and works are being undertaken inside Forge Mill Farm and RSPB’s nature reserve. Throughout the scheme, Jackson has implemented measures to reduce emissions, and help protect the natural environment.
Perry Barr was the first construction site in Birmingham to be powered by cleaner burning alternative fuel, gad-to-liquid (GTL). GTL fuel is free of unwanted components such as sulphur, metals, and aromatics, which helps to minimise its impact on the environment compared to conventional diesel. It produces less odour, smoke and engine noise - creating a healthier working environment for workers and reducing disruption to the local community.
Safety Stand Down Days involving the site team, client and subcontractors have also been held in a bid to strengthen existing safety procedures on site, and promote discussion around site specific health and safety challenges.
