Over 1m viewers watch Dover team documentary

Over 1m viewers have watched a documentary featuring the Jackson team working at the Port of Dover.

Episode 6 of ‘Dover 24/7: Britain’s Busiest Port,’ broadcast earlier this week on Channel 4, showing the team contribution’s to ensuring the infrastructure is in place for the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES).

The EES system aims to digitise border crossings by replacing manual passport stamping with electronic registration for vehicles entering and leaving the port using biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial imagery.

The documentary about life at the Kent terminal was filmed last year when the team were working in difficult conditions seven days a week to meet the tight deadline. The works involved construction of a new road system, installation of communications services along with the erection of new buildings for the coach checks.

According to the communications team at the Port of Dover, the episode featuring Jackson has been the most popular of the six episodes that make up the series. Average viewing figures for the episode were 911,000 with a peak of 1m.

A spokesperson said that, due to the success of the programme, Channel 4 is considering commissioning a follow-up series.
