Get set to offset
A key element of Jackson’s journey to Net Zero, is our partnership with climate action specialist Ecologi who help us offset greenhouse emissions from our operations.
The current arrangement covers Jackson’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions and sees offsetting charges used to directly fund emission avoidance projects in developing countries.
Scope 1 emissions are direct GHG emissions from sources owned or controlled by Jackson, like plant and equipment, while Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from purchased energy used to power and heat our offices and cabins.

Engineering and empowerment
The projects Jackson is supporting are innovative engineering schemes that produce clean power. These initiatives also aim to empower and upskill local people – often in the poorest parts of the world, most affected by climate change.
The projects are as follows:
Brazil
The Macaúbas Landfill Gas Project sees landfill gas collected from landfills and flared or used to produce electricity.
India
An anaerobic system converts effluent generated during the production of starch from maize into methane-rich biogas, which is then captured for the generation of electricity, reducing waste.
Cambodia
Biodigester converts animal manure into clean biogas and organic fertiliser, providing a way for households to reduce their dependence on polluting fuels for cooking and lighting.
Low carbon alternatives
This is an exciting arrangement that enables Jackson to take tangible action to reduce our impact on climate change and positively impact other communities in the developing south. It also means that we are, in effect, carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2.
However, in tandem with this strategy, Jackson will continue its absolute reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the uptake of low carbon alternatives, decreasing our use of offsetting each year as our objectives are achieved.
Last year Jackson cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 12% and must continue to reduce emissions by 10% year-on-year if it is to reach its Scope 1 and 2 Net Zero goal by 2035.
