Robben island is infamous as the island where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison. What is less known is that in 1995, soon after his release from prison, I was sent to the island for 18 months, where I spent my days upgrading the infrastructure and services changing the island from a prison to a World Heritage Site. Still to this day one of the most interesting and unique projects I have ever been involved in.

Jackson People

Leadership Team

The company is founded by Frank Jackson as a public works contractor ‘Roadworks 1952 Ltd’. Early work included roads and sewers for housing schemes and main road improvements.

Throughout the 60s and 70s, the company diversified into building, plant hire and surfacing. In 1976, Roadworks won its first £1m contract.

Roadworks 1952 Ltd becomes Jackson Civil Engineering and Frank Jackson retires.

Management buy out led by current Chief Executive, Richard Neall. Following the MBO, Jackson becomes the largest part of SEH group, which has an annual turnover of £250m.

Richard Neall takes the reins of SEH Group, and the group rebrands as One Group Construction, a group of 8 companies offering a variety of services to the construction sector.

Brian Crofton becomes Jackson’s new Managing Director. Richard Neall steps back.

The Group

Jackson is the largest part of One Group Construction, the parent company for a collection of construction and logistics related businesses working throughout the United Kingdom. Its subsidiaries work for government departments, fellow private sector organisations as well as directly with the general public through our retail businesses.
