Graduates dig
quarry visit
Jackson graduates and industrial placements visited a quarry in Maidstone, Kent this week.
Each year Gallagher Aggregates’ Hermitage Quarry, located near junction 5 of the M20, produces two million tonnes of aggregates, which are processed into more than 100 different construction materials.

Materials
The graduates and industrial placements from the Southern region and Highways division, were accompanied by regional engineers and senior managers. They learnt about the different uses of the stone and some of the projects where materials have been used, including the A249 Grovehurst Road junction improvement scheme that Jackson is currently working on for Kent County Council.
Quarrying began at Hermitage Quarry in 1990 when now Chairman Pat Gallagher was granted planning permission to quarry for Kentish Ragstone on his Hermitage Estate. The company has a policy of returning land back to good use and, to date, some 75 acres have been reinstated to a combination of agriculture, broadleaved woodland and hedgerows.
