Jackson offsets
carbon emissions
Jackson has partnered with specialist company Ecologi to offset greenhouse gas emissions from its operations.
The current arrangement covers Jackson’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions and will see offsetting charges used to directly fund emission avoidance projects in developing countries.
Scope 1 emissions are direct GHG emissions from sources owned or controlled by Jackson, like plant and equipment, while Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from purchased energy used to power and heat our offices and cabins. The deal with Ecologi means that Jackson is now carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2. However, we will continue to work towards reducing our own emissions. Last year Jackson cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 12% and must continue to reduce emissions by 10% year-on-year if it is to reach its Net Zero goal by 2035.
The projects Jackson is supporting are engineering schemes that capture GHGs and use them to produce cleaner power. These initiatives also aim to empower and upskill local people - often in the poorest parts of the world, most affected by climate change.

Projects
The projects are as follows: Brazil - the Macaúbas Landfill Gas Project sees landfill gas collected from landfills and flared or used to produce electricity.
India - an anaerobic system converts effluent generated during the production of starch from maize into methane-rich biogas, which is then captured for the generation of electricity, reducing waste.
Cambodia –a biodigester converts animal manure into clean biogas and organic fertiliser, providing a way for households to reduce their dependence on polluting fuels for cooking and lighting. In turn reducing Climate Change and increasing air quality as the release is controlled.

'This is an important step on our Net Zero journey. As a business we are focused on taking steps to ensure we reduce our impact on the environment and it is great to be able to support innovative engineering initiatives in other countries and together achieve our goals.'
