Prince named East of England ICE STEM Ambassador of the Year
A regional engineer at Jackson has won a prestigious industry award for his work engaging with schools and colleges to give students an insight into the world of civil engineering.
Prince Sithole, who works in Jackson’s Highways Division, has been named STEM Ambassador of the Year for the East of England by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). STEM Ambassadors volunteer their time to encourage young people to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), and to inspire them about the range of opportunities these subjects can lead to.
Prince said: "I'm honoured to receive recognition for doing what I love in the civil engineering field. The support from the Jackson Civil Engineering team has been tremendous and we share this award as a team."
Prince has brought a renewed vigour to Jackson’s STEM Ambassador programme and even in 2020 when Covid-19 restrictions prevented school visits in person, he was able to use video and multimedia to deliver ten socially-distanced events in the calendar year. He has impressed so much with his outreach work that he was recently invited to join the Industrial Advisory Board at Kingston University in southwest London. His latest project is the development of Virtual Insight and Work Experience programmes in partnership with Speakers for Schools.
Optimism
Through his energy and optimism Prince not only inspires the young people he meets but also his colleagues and other STEM Ambassadors around the business. Jackson’s STEM Ambassador team has at least doubled in size to 14 registered members since his involvement. They come from across the organisation’s regions and business divisions, and reflect the diversity that Jackson's workforce needs and the communities we work in.

'I’m really pleased Prince’s hard work and dedication to the cause has been recognised. He is always so positive and the influence he’s had on our engineers to get involved in the programme is a reflection on his infectious passion for developing those around him
