Jackson and its client Canal & River Trust have been awarded a prestigious International Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Award for their work with the community in Huddersfield.
A Jackson team has been based in the West Yorkshire town carrying out improvements from between Aspley Basin and Cooper Bridge on the Broad Canal towpath, together with repairs to historic canal walls and other features.
The gold award, presented by The Green Organisation, recognises outstanding achievements in delivering lasting benefits for people and the planet.
During the duration of the towpath improvement project, the Jackson and CRT teams engaged with several groups in Huddersfield. This included running a 3D printing project with students from Kirklees College; working with the town library to set up a nature reading trail along the towpath for primary school pupils; and offering careers advice and site visits to engineering students at Huddersfield University.
Completion of this stretch of towpath is the final phase in a major multi-million-pound programme of towpath improvements along the length of Huddersfield Narrow and Huddersfield Broad canals. Earlier this week, stakeholders met up to officially open the upgraded towpath, and celebrate the CSR Award win. Northern Region Contracts Manager, Craig Hardy and Section Engineer, David Bush represented Jackson.
